A lot of people are using Bondo to repair dent cars, but it can also be used on other materials including wood and PC casings. Here is a guide to using it.
Required Tools and Materials
Sander
Bondo
Face mask
Paint pan
Putty knife
Sand paper
Towel
Instructions
Clean and clear the spot where you’ll be putting Bondo on. Add a bit of Bondo on the pan. You’ve got to use this in small amounts. A 2 inch section is enough. Take out your hardener. Place a strip at the top of the Bondo. Before you can start using Bondo, you need to mix it. Unless it’s properly mixed, Bondo won’t be effective.
Use the knife to grab some Bondo. Apply this on the surface you cleaned. Put it on quickly because Bondo dries and hardens fast. Try to spread the Bondo. Make it as even as possible. Don’t forget to fill the edges. This is necessary to keep moisture from seeping.
Let the Bondo stiffen for 45 minutes. If it remains soft even after an hour, the mixing was incorrect. You’ll need to put in more hardener.
Sanding
Sand the Bondo with your sandpaper (medium grit will be fine). Don your face mask first. When using Bondo, some of its particles may come up. Apply the sandpaper evenly over the whole area.
Use the sandpaper to flatten any ridges. When it’s leveled, use
fine grit sandpaper. Rub your hands over it to make sure the surface is flat. Clean the surface with a damp towel. Get rid of any particles that may be left over.
Modeling with Bondo
For this, you’ll need the following.
Required Tools and Materials
Bondo Body filler
Bondo Spot
Spoon
5 Popsicle sticks
Spoon
Instructions
Get a spoonful of the Bondo filler and put it in the paper cup. If necessary, use the Popsicle stick to get the Bondo into the cup. Take another Popsicle stick and create a line between the 0” and 11/16” mark.
Continue using Bondo by taking the hardener. Squeeze it out from the mark you made earlier. Get another Popsicle stick. Stir the mixture until it assumes a single color. Depending on the mix, it
will harden in 15 minutes or 45 minutes.
When applying, its possible the Bondo will droop. Put some masking tape around it. Let this dry for an hour. Now get some x-acto knives and start molding it. When it’s the shape you want, apply sand. Start with a grit level of 220 and go up to 600. For best results, use grits up to 1200.
Warnings
Work with Bondo quickly because it might harden before you’re done. Never use Bondo in clogged places and spaces. Make sure there is enough air flowing around. This will help dissipate any chemicals and particles. Don’t neglect the sanding part. It’s what will keep the surface smooth.
The key to using Bondo successfully is in the mixing. If you mix it well, you’ll be able to use it without any problems.
